World renowned artist Les Matthews has enjoyed a professional career that so far spans four decades. His highly sought after paintings are prominently featured in many private, public and corporate collections throughout the world.

Educated at Bristol Cathedral School, he qualified with a BA 1st Honours degree at Gloucestershire College of Art before going on to the Royal College of Art where he gained his MA.

Mainly a cityscape painter, Les’s work explores cities around the world from Europe to the United States and the far east to the middle east.  Although versatile in his use of mediums, he is well appreciated and respected for his technical competence, which is unmistakable in every piece of his work. 

Every painting evokes a contemporary atmosphere yet is created using exquisite layered detail, a technique reminiscent of the renaissance. In his unique style, Les expresses the same subject several times within the structure of the painting. His composition gradually intensifies levels of light or moments in time, to evoke different perspectives on the same subject, compelling the view to explore and decipher the whole image.
