David Stendal is in his sixties and lives in Northumberland. His paintings convey the ever changing elemental forces of Nature from harsh, windswept moorlands to everlasting, glowing summer days.
Painting on site, mainly in the remoteness of the Scottish Highlands, David feels an overwhelming sense of freedom and connectivity with his surroundings, instilling into his work an emotion so intense that the viewer could also be standing at his side in the untamed landscape.
David’s spontaneous, impasto technique captures the raw energy of the wilderness in all its glory. Even though he uses his palette knife in such a bold and vigorous way, each defining stroke is carefully considered ensuring for a well balanced, harmonious composition.
